Hi. Ryan, here.

I'm a writer, pastor, creator, husband, and father, living in Kansas City, Missouri. My prayer is my life and work will offer "hints of hope" to the world.

Sermon Notes: Qualified and Delivered.

Every Sunday evening I will post a brief meditation from the morning sermon. Here’s tonight’s from Colossians 1:12-14:

…giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Qualified. The world is built on qualifications. Are they smart enough? Tall enough? Rich enough? Can we qualify for the loan?

Qualified.

We’re qualified by the Father, because of the work of the Son. Qualified for an inheritance that never rusts, rots, or taken away. Qualified for a certain future and it has nothing to do with us. Gift, grace, and received by faith.

Qualified for a seat at the Great Banquet Table.

Delivered. How I need deliverance. Deliverance from self-importance and self-glory. I need deliverance from the shackles and bondage of sin.

Deliverance is a freedom word, with a promise of forgiveness from the sins that so easily entangle. I’ve been delivered from one domain, a world of darkness, pain, separation, and death.

Now a transfer of domain has occurred, a domain which loves the light of the Son.
The former domain of darkness looked enticing, but could not satisfy the deep recesses of a hungry soul.

Deliverance, oh how I need it…

Merciful Father,
I’m qualified and delivered into new life. Help me not live in the past of trying to qualify myself, trying to save myself, trying to make something out of this flesh and bones. May I marvel and rejoice in the qualification and deliverance that comes from your gracious hands. These two words change everything in light of today and forever. Amen.
